Camps Foundation: Project Update – the Camps Effect in full swing

At Camps International we believe in doing things differently. Not content with just being a company, we’re a social enterprise - focused specifically on changing lives across 3 continents for the better. Not content with just being a social enterprise, we’re a social enterprise with a charity, one that focuses on enhancing the work our volunteers do and ensuring between charity and social enterprise that every project we start, we finish. This summer was our biggest ever, with over 1700...

With the help of our amazing volunteers from schools, universities and independent travellers, we have already made significant developments to help thousands of people. To do more, we need more volunteers who are looking for an opportunity to not only visit this exciting and biodiverse landscape but to help change lives through...

A parents perspective…

A parents perspective…

We often hear from students and teachers what it’s like to travel with us. We also hear from parents concerned about their child disappearing off to other continents around the world, worried what the experience will be like. We’d like to share with you the parent view from Michelle, whose daughter travelled with us this past summer. This is their story told in her words. Sending my daughter away to Ecuador in South America for 4 weeks at the age of 16...

Ecuador – Team Turpial Summer 2016

Ecuador – Team Turpial Summer 2016

Team Turpial spent an amazing summer in Ecuador, undertaking community projects and visiting the Galapagos Islands. In the Galapagos we were introduced to our extremely knowledgeable and hilarious tour guides Ernesto and Raúl. They informed us about the delicate balance between humans and the wildlife and gave us a tour of the interpretation centre. We enjoyed a visit Tortuga Bay and got extremely up close and personal with Marne iguanas and friendly sea lions. We went snorkelling several times around...

Expedition insights: Team Guacamayo by Beth

Expedition insights: Team Guacamayo by Beth

Travelling upwards of twenty-six hours is ironically both exhausting and fuelling as the anticipation builds for the moment that we could look upon the green beauty that is Ecuador and think, oh yes, we made it in one piece. Or if you're our friend Oli, in one piece without any luggage. Great start. We always knew beginning a Camps expedition would leave us wide-eyed, and hungry for adventure; but no advert or presentation can tell you of the experiences you...

New learning is shining from Camp Kuri Kucho

New learning is shining from Camp Kuri Kucho

Each group of volunteers is always different: ages, countries, perspective of life and others, but always Camp’s crew learn something from them. A great group of guys from twelve to thirteen years old with curiosity and imagination who had a big impact in Camp Kuri Kucho. Their first impression was that San Pablo Urco, a community that has a very basic lifestyle in the mountain is very close to the movement, pollution and chaos of their city, Quito. From the beginning...

Camp Ecuador’s Earthquake Response

The earthquake that struck Ecuador on the 16th April 2016 was a massive 7.8 on the Richter scale, resulting in over 600 deaths and nearly 28,000 injured individuals. It was felt strongly across the whole country but devastated the coastal regions of Manta, Perdernales and Portoviejo, which accounted for some 75% of the total casualties. In the end it turned out to be the worst disaster to hit the country in over 70 years. Most of the Camp Ecuador team...

Keely’s travels to Ecuador!

Keely’s travels to Ecuador!

So, as some of you know I work for Camps on the independent travel team, part of my role consists of helping people find their perfect trip and ensuring they are ready before jetting off. I look after the South America region and liaise quite heavily with our teams in Peru and Ecuador. This February I was lucky enough to journey overseas to Ecuador to meet our teams, our camps, projects and the regions we work in. I have done...
