Our 1 Month Gap Year Experiences

 

 

Camp Kenya - 1 Month

 

Gap Year Camp Kenya - 1 Month - CK1
A Gap Year doesn't need to be a whole year. If you're between finishing A levels and going to University or just fancy an extended voluntary holiday then CK1 is perfect and hopefully just what you're looking for.

 

Highlights

 

  • Ideal if you don't have time for a full gap year
  • Key involvement in ongoing Community projects, including construction, teaching and sports
  • Working Safari at Mwaluganje Elephant Sanctuary
  • 2-day big game safari in National Park
  • Working safari on Rukinga Wildlife Sanctuary
  • Opportunities to Scuba Dive or Mountain Trek
  • Half Day Snorkeling Trip & Cultural Village Tour

Camp Tanzania - 1 Month

 

Gap Year Camp Tanzania - 1 Month
Camp Tanzania programmes operate from the Moshi area of Northern Tanzania, literally in the foothills of Kilimanjaro. As with everything we do there is a strong community and wildlife focus and there is probably nowhere better in the world to enjoy an experience combining these elements.

 

Highlights

 

  • 3–week School Community Project in the Kilimanjaro foothills
  • 3-day big game safari in National Parks
  • Swahili lessons, orientation and 24-hour on-site management
  • Cultural excursion days
  • Optional mountain week for Kilimanjaro or Mt Meru (Mountain climbs are booked separately on request for an additional charge)


 


 

 

Camp Zanzibar - 1 Month

 

Gap Year Camp Borneo- 1 Month - CB1
The CZ one month Zanzibar experience is geared towards volunteers who are interested in the marine environment, and specifically the conservation of dolphins, whales and other marine mammals. You see, there is a reason for us using a dolphin on our Camp Zanzibar logo!

 

Highlights

 

  • Key involvement in ongoing Marine conservation projects
  • 4 day cetacean (dolphins & whales) conservation program in partnership with KIDOTOA (Kizimkazi Dolphin Tourism Operators Association)
  • Regular Boat Trips to monitor and identify the Kizimkazi Dolphins
  • Spice Tour
  • Environmental education workshops with local schools
  • Shoreline safaris & beach clean ups
  • Visit to Jozani National Wildlife Park to see the endangered Zanzibar Red Colobus monkey
  • 2 night home stay visit

It may seem a long way to go for only 1 month but we have a packed itinerary for you. If you are pushed for time because of Uni or looking to add this to your ‘round the world’ trip then a month in Borneo is perfect. Orang-utans, community work and a one week jungle experience are some key highlights.

  • Key involvement in ongoing community projects, including construction, teaching and sports

  • Work on environmental project in Lower Kinabatangan region of eastern Sabah

  • Visit to Sepilok Orang-utan Sanctuary

Sports Development Expedition - 1 Month

 

 

Gap Year Camp Kenya - 3 Months - CK3

The Sports Development Expedition (SDX) offers a unique opportunity for volunteers to get 'hands-on' experience of coaching in less fortunate, rural communities and schools in Kenya or Borneo.

 

It gives students the chance to directly apply their skills and knowledge to provide inspiration and all of the benefits of their own education to others. In 2008 University of Portsmouth joined the expedition and this year both Surrey & Southampton University have also joined the programme.

 

Highlights

 

  • 4 week sports development team expedition to Kenya or Borneo
  • Get involved with everything from low level construction to coaching
  • Learn practical skills for coaching in less privileged areas
  • Pass on your own experience and help improve overall sports teaching methods
  • Work with raw talent from several local African/Asian schools

CK 2 is perfect if you have a little more time to travel and it enables you to play a bigger part in our projects and also to create a stronger bond with the local people, our staff and of course, your fellow gappers.

Our 2-month Borneo programme has everything you get during a one-month stay plus our Marine Awareness Programme on Mantanani Island complete with a PADI Open Water Scuba Diving qualification. Your weeks spent on the idyllic Mantanani Island will complement perfectly your time spent on the mainland on your main community project. And all this is wrapped up with a jungle experience on the Kinabatangan River including a visit to the Sepilok Orang-utan Sanctuary.

  • Includes PADI Open Water diving course with other dives assisting with Marine Awareness Programme

CK3 is the ultimate Camp Kenya experience and gives you the opportunity to dedicate the maximum amount of time to our ongoing projects and in some cases see projects through from start to finish. During your 3 months at Camp Kenya you will integrate into the community and forge strong bonds with the local people, our staff and of course, your fellow gappers.

Our 3-month experience has it all for those who are looking to immerse themselves in Malaysian culture and adventure. This trip includes all aspects of Camp Borneo 2 (Community project, Marine Awareness Programme, Wildlife and Orang-Utan Sanctuary) with more time available for community project work as well as the opportunity to trek unsupported in dense Borneo jungle. In addition you get to spend your final week exploring the beaches of peninsula Malaysia and Kuala Lumpur city.
