Camps International Is A Unique Worldwide Concept

Camps International has a come a very long way in a very short time and we believe that the reason is simple.
Everything about Camps International is fundamentally right. We wanted to create a dynamic travel environment where everyone wins, the traveller , the host community, the business, the environment and wildlife.
To achieve this we have developed a template for how we like to do things and a set of systems that apply to each of our camps.
Our accommodation varies between locations but always consists of basic but very comfortable, tented units or chalets. Special attention has been made for the environmental/climate considerations (i.e. its really hot!) and the tents are light, airy, cool and fully netted to reduce mosquito/insect risk. This said there are times of the year when keeping cool is simply impossible..all part of the experience we hope.
Individual sleeping units consist of handmade beds, high-density mattresses and individual mosquito nets. Local village craftsmen produce all the camp furniture from sustainable timber sources or in some cases metal.
Classic safari style field kitchens supply a daily menu of fresh, local produce. The camp cooks who live in and around each camp are responsible for providing three square and healthy meals per day.
We employ people locally and they all have children at the schools you will work with. More often than not they will insist that you relax, however we prefer it if you muck in when you can and help our staff, assisting with the preparation of meals for the camp as well as cleaning up and general field kitchen duties.
Fresh fish, meat, chicken, fruit and vegetables are all standard daily fare. Purchases are made daily and you are encouraged to "barter" and purchase supplies from local villagers i.e. fisherman, thus encouraging important cultural interaction and financial support.
Local cooking techniques are also taught and utilised, with a beach BBQ being one of the many highlights of your stay. A wide range of diets can also be catered for including vegetarian and vegan. Unlimited drinking water is supplied in the camp; the water is purified through well-maintained European standard filters thus reducing risk of waterborne diseases. Soft drinks and beer can be provided at your expense and a dedicated fridge is provided in camp for this purpose.
All our camps are equipped with comprehensive first aid packs and first aid trained staff. We have purposefully chosen locations within close proximity to first class medical and communication facilities. Each Camp is equipped with radio communications to our head office and all our management staff have company mobile phones. We provide 24 hour security for our camps using local security and police. For more information see the safety section of this website.
The East African head office is located in a stunning 'mosque' style building in the centre of Diani. The East African Management team permanently staffs the office and logistics for all our camps operate from this central location. Thanks to its central location, our headquarters enables us to effectively resource all our expeditions.
We have also chosen to work in partnership with the local police and as such our office acts as the security headquarters for the Diani region. The office is fully equipped with VHF and Marine frequency radios giving us permanent communications with each Camp.
All our key management staff live within 5 minutes of the office. In the event of an emergency, our office becomes an effective crisis management centre. We have a direct line to Diani Hospital and their ambulance and full support from all local police units.
With up to 5 camps in operation at the same time, our Office has a main kitchen, air conditioned food stores and workshops. During our peak seasons we prepare over 1000 meals per day, service our vehicles through the night and provide food and accommodation for many of our East African team. In our workshops you will find vehicle mechanics, metalworkers and carpenters all of whom are essential to the smooth running of the company.
Camps international operates its own transport system for the provision of camp supplies as well as student transfers and safaris.
This ensures that key issues such as vehicle maintenance, driver skills and qualifications, are maintained to the highest levels, thus reducing potential risk elements commonly associated with travel on the African continent. It also provides you with the ability to travel locally and spend some all important time experiencing life outside and away from the Camp.
Where additional transport is required, our partner company Southern Cross Safaris Ltd who are a 36-year-old British run Company, supplies vehicles to the same exacting standards, which include HF radios for long distance safaris and transfers.
