TestimonialGap Year AfricaMy expectations were more than realised and I have to say I had high expectations. It taught me many skills of a practical nature and has encouraged a greater degree of independence. I think it’ll also be useful in showing people that I can get things done without supervision, both in drumming up funds to go out and from what we did while there.Gap Year Africa

Our commitment to your son or daughterback to top

We are assuming a significant responsibility and we take it very seriously. A structured Gap placement is an opportunity for a young person to develop their personal skills and accomplish extraordinary things. It is unlikely that this is a holiday; it’s often a once in a lifetime opportunity and we have to make every moment count. We don’t profess to get it right all the time but we guarantee you that every effort will be made by every member of our team to ensure that this is a truly epic experience for your son or daughter.

Our Ethosback to top

GappersWe understand that your child is embarking on an important phase of their life. The transition from school to Further / Higher Education or employment is a difficult and often stressful time for them. Yet with careful guidance and sensible advice they can navigate their way to a successful and enjoyable future. We start this process by treating your child as a ‘young adult’ that can be ‘hand-railed’ safely along, while they embark on this period of development. It is not made easy for them and we believe there is great value in drawing the best out of each traveller who joins Camps International. We put the onus on each traveller to be self-motivated and resourceful in organising and planning their trip and be responsible and accountable for their actions throughout the expedition, (with particular consideration on the impact their behaviour has on others).

Additionally, it requires your child to be confident enough to undertake a variety of unfamiliar and challenging activities that not only strengthens their determination to succeed and allow them to feel a sense of achievement, but also exposes them to a more diverse selection of interests. This will help them recognise their own strengths and is likely to assist them in determining their chosen career path.

Raising the Moneyback to top

Fees are rising for university and the cost of education in general, is increasing. Unfortunately a quality Gap Year is not cheap and indeed, the largest numbers of ‘gappers’ fail to take a year out because they feel they are unable to raise sufficient funds for the event. It is critical therefore that every school-leaver is given the opportunity to experience the benefits of adventure travel as part of their Gap. At Camps International we have made this as easy as possible by providing a range of adventures at competitive prices. Our expedition planner and money management guide will assist your child in understanding the key elements of fundraising and saving towards their Expedition or Gap Year.

How do I get in touch once they are gone? back to top

A member of our Team is available 24 hours per day, 7 days per week whilst we have students in Camp. In addition you have the following channels of communication open to you:

  • UK Office: Whether you call the office in or out of working hours, you will get one of the Team on the end of the line.
  • Mobile: If your son or daughter has a mobile phone with a ‘roaming’ facility there is good coverage. Just be aware its not cheap but a text message typically costs 50p.
  • Email: There is regular access to email although connection can prove unreliable. This said, email is certainly the best form of communication.

How can you help? back to top

Well the fact that you are reading this is a good start. Invariably your son or daughter will be drawn to the excitement of what we provide, your role, of course, is to ensure that it’s safe and worthwhile. They will need your support throughout and in particular with:

  • Finance: Raising the funds is a hard slog and regardless of how much you decide to put in the kitty, you can give good advice on budgeting, financial planning and jobs.
  • Booking : Please take time to read and understand our Terms and Conditions and assist with the process of booking. Compare our recommended insurance policy with others and call us if you have any questions.
  • Pre -departure briefings: We hold pre-departure briefings for our Gappers at our offices and you are encouraged to come along. This is an ideal opportunity for you to meet the team before they fly the nest!

Summary

If you haven’t already done so, take time to look around the website. Discuss what we have to offer in detail with your son or daughter and then simply get in touch or help them to book their place. Finally, we hope that we have gone some way to helping you sleep soundly while they have the time of their life.
