Camp Kenya Muhaka 2 Week
You won’t believe what can be achieved during your two weeks in Kenya. Settle in to your new African home, Camp Muhaka is a charming bush camp set within a small rural community on the lower slopes of the Shimba Hills. This beautiful camp sits in the middle of a forest, rich in palm and mango trees that provide cooling shade from the heat of the sun, where monkeys and bush babies inquisitively watch you from the canopy. Smiles and singing will greet you at the local schools where you’ll get stuck into improving school infrastructure, you certainly won’t be short of new friends.

The impact you will make
School Improvement & Traditional House Building (Muhaka)
Muhaka village remains one of the poorest communities in the area and many of its residents cannot afford to repair or rebuild their houses, which have deteriorated over time. The school is also in a constant state of disrepair. You will help by building traditional housing for people and supporting the ongoing renovation of the school.
- Helping to build a traditional house for needy families
- Take part in various environmentally friendly income generating activities e.g. tree planting
- Digging classroom foundations & laying bricks
- Plastering, painting and decorating buildings
- Making classroom furniture

Camp Muhaka will quickly become your home away from home. With stylish traditional buildings and a great social scene, there’s plenty to keep you busy. Being in the heart of the village also has its perks; all your project sites are only a short walk away and you can walk with the children to and from school so you’ll be a local in no time!
Location: 50 km (1.5-2 hours drive) from Mombasa Airport, 540 km (8-9 hours drive) from Nairobi Airport
Accommodation: Traditional bandas with comfy mattresses & bedding. Modern toilets, showers & sinks
Power: Mains electricity backed up by generator (between 18:00 – 22:00). British 3 pin power sockets

Meals: Three healthy, well balanced and tasty meals a day e.g. toast, cereal, and omelette for breakfast; rice, beef stew/curry with veg for lunch/dinner & fruit

He greets problems with ‘Hakuna Matata’, Swahili for ‘no worries’. Sammy K will always have you smiling and get you energised for project work. Known to chase elephants out of camp and source birthday cakes in the middle of Tsavo National Park, he’s an all round champ.
Day to day - Sample itinerary
You will arrive into either Mombasa or Nairobi where you will be met by a member of our local team and transferred to our charming Camp Muhaka. Upon arrival you’ll receive a warm welcome from our legendary camp staff. You’ll be shown around your new African home by our camp manager and briefed by our project manager on the work you will be undertaking.
Beach chill out day
Before you throw yourself into projects, you have a couple of days to spend relaxing on Kenya’s stunning coast. Diani beach is a little slice of paradise and is home to plenty of great shops, restaurants and beach bars.
Let the project work begin. You will spend the next 6 days helping to improve school infrastructure and homes for members of the community who need it the most within the village. You will work in collaboration with local tradesmen on home improvements, building school desks and classrooms.
Beach chill out day
Two more well earned days off on the beautiful Diani beach.
Back to project work.
Today we’ll say our goodbyes and transfer you back to the airport (Mombasa or Nairobi).
