In 2011, with the help of an inspirational travel nurse, we joined forces and launched our Healthcare Outreach Programme in Kenya. Since then, over 175 dedicated healthcare professionals have travelled to Kenya, volunteering 2 weeks of their time several times a year, to deliver essential medical care and treatments to over 27,000 people.
Many people in rural Kenya are living below the poverty line and access to proper healthcare is often limited or non-existent. The Muhaka community has a couple of local hospitals and dispensaries but facilities are very poor and they do not have enough equipment or expertise to treat so many people.
It is not uncommon for women to walk many miles with a sick or injured child in order to reach a decent medical facility.
This situation has led to many children living in unsanitary conditions. A lack of personal health education further compounds this problem, leading to a high number of young children suffering from malnutrition.
We need volunteers to run free community clinics, offering consultations, treatments, medication and testing for a whole range of conditions.
To help make even more of a difference to this project, you could consider making an additional donation of £80 directly to The Camps Foundation.
All additional funds raised will be used to purchase vital drugs and equipment needed for the programme, as well paying the wages of the local specialists and translators who are an integral part of the trip’s success.

Visit clinic locations
Today you will visit the clinic locations, local dispensaries and hospitals with a view to establishing a plan for the clinic arrangements. You’ll spend the afternoon getting to know your team and allocating jobs for everyone in the group.
Workshops with local medical volunteers and NGOs. Your team will be split into small groups and mixed with local medical professionals, giving you the opportunity to discuss and share knowledge about local tropical diseases and problems facing the community. This will provide you with a better overview of the common ailments you can expect to see in the field during clinic days.
You will be involved in setting up your clinics before spending two days delivering free healthcare services within the community, a challenging but truly rewarding experience. You will also be involved in raising vital awareness on key issues for local youth groups, and set up a sexual health workshop to deliver advice and answer questions from the community.
Today is a rest day! We will take you down to the stunning Diani beach where you can relax, shop eat and drink.
Get stuck back into medical clinics and educational workshops.
Another chance to relax and enjoy the beautiful white sands of Diani.
You’ll also have the chance to book one of the many adventure activities available, including scuba diving, snorkelling, dolphin spotting and kite surfing.
Two further days of medical clinics and educational workshops.
Clinic wrap-up & cultural exchange
Today you will have some time to reflect on the clinic sessions and discuss all feedback with your group. You will also spend time exploring relevant issues with the local medical staff, with an opportunity to present ideas for future clinics.
In the afternoon you can learn more about the local culture with an opportunity to cook traditional foods, learn how to weave makuti (palm leaves), visit a witchdoctor and buy souvenirs for friends and relatives if you would like to.
A final chance to lie on the beach and relax before you head home.
If you’re up for some more adventure, you can extend your trip and head on for a safari in the incredible Tsavo National Park. Let us know if you’d like to add this top-up and we can arrange this for you.
Say farewell to the community – it won’t be easy! We will transfer you back to Mombasa Airport for your flight home.
