Healthcare Volunteering

Come and join our remarkable two-week Healthcare Outreach programme in rural Kenya. Use your vocational skills to change the lives of rural communities who otherwise don’t have access to sufficient healthcare. You will collaborate with us, and a number of other healthcare professionals, in the running of free pop-up clinics that provide a vital healthcare service to all ages from newborns through to the elderly. You could be treating a child with jiggers (parasitic fleas that embed into the feet), tending to infected wounds, or carrying out much needed immunisations. As well as treating patients, our Healthcare Outreach initiative acts as a valuable vehicle for awareness offering help and advice on key issues from family planning, sexual health and nutrition.

Your home during your two weeks in Kenya will be at our charming Camp Muhaka. Set in the middle of a forest rich in palm and mango trees, Camp Muhaka also neighbours a small rural village in the foothills of the Shimba Hills National Reserve.

Many people in the village of Muhaka and the surrounding county are living below the poverty line and it’s estimated that 70% do not have access to proper educational facilities or healthcare. Camps International has been running the Healthcare Outreach programme in Kenya since 2011. During this time, it has been discovered that many children live in unsanitary conditions and most of them suffer from debilitating intestinal worm infestations and diarrhea, resulting in stunted development and disease.
