What is the Camps International Trust (CIT) ?

 

Camps International Trust (CIT) is a new charity that has been established in UK to raise funds for two linked charities operating abroad. It is the charitable arm of the highly innovative Camps International organisation which has been involved in supporting community and wildlife projects with local communities and international visitors through it’s programme of adventure tourism.

 

It emphasises responsible and ethical tourism by active participation with the local communities and by disseminating information on the benefits to the community and the wildlife that surrounds them.

 

Camps International already has sustainable development and conservation projects running in Kenya and Tanzania and is about to expand with similar ventures in Borneo. The CIT charity will direct funds to support these projects and ensure every penny is carefully spent. It important to stress that, unlike large international charities, CIT will avoid local government or other non-governmental agencies directing with how the money is distributed.

The aim of CIT is to make financial grants to Camps International Trust (Africa) and Camps International Trust (Asia) to be used solely to finance local, well defined projects covering the following aspects:

 

Community

 

Sustainable rural and community development

 

• Promoting local employment initiatives, including skills training.
• Providing buildings for schools, housing and communal use.
• Improving and maintaining utilities, particularly water, to enhance the living conditions of the community.
• Assisting communities to profit from their resources in a sustainable manner.

 

Education

 

• Providing financial support for very poor pupils towards education in the form of grants and scholarships.
• Introducing programmes for the advancement of education.
• Maintaining and renovating schools buildings and facilities.
• Implementing environmental education programmes in schools.
• Expanding sports education and facilities in schools.

 

Healthcare

 

• Providing relief from medical (including hospital charges) and any distress caused by natural disasters.
• Improving and renovating medical facilities.
• Promoting the awareness of general health issues

 

 

 

Wildlife and Environment

 

 

Ecosystem and species conservation

 

• Habitat protection, restoration and management.
• Promoting conservation research into land and marine ecosystems.
• Managing long term conservation research projects.
• Encouraging sustainable use and conservation of natural resources.
  

 

Individual participation

 

• Promoting an appreciation of the wildlife by engaging visitors in practical projects.
  Allowing participants to make a positive and real contribution to habitat and species conservation.
• Raising awareness amongst volunteers, visitors and tourists to the conservation
• issues through environmental education.
  

 

Responsible and ethical tourism

 

• Promoting sustainable tourism that has a low impact on the environment.
• Developing eco-tourism as a strategic tool towards addressing social and environmental issues.

 

 

How is the money allocated?

 

The most important question asked by those who have taken part in any programme or wish to donate is how their donation is spent. CIT will assess and prioritise project proposals submitted by Camps International Trust (Africa) and Camps International Trust (Asia) and then allocate financial grants to these two local charities. It will then follow up these grants by reviewing progress reports from Camps International.

Wherever possible, CIT will be able to claim back tax on all your donations, however large or small which means that every penny of your contribution goes directly towards the people and projects that need it most.
