We also run Short trips in Tanzania and last year December American Community School from Abi Dhabi Dubai closed our 2013 chapter with a blazing experience. The trip was based on community service, cultural experience and environmental management. The team thoroughly enjoyed every single bit of their time and indeed made a huge difference to the host community through our projects. Just before they left they had this to say………………………

This trip was an experience, whether it was meeting the native people,Cultivating the land Or, even renovating the local schools.

We were provided with so many life changing opportunities that we would have never experienced elsewhere. As we interacted with the Swahili culture, there came a realization of our own isolation.

We realized that we take things for granted, especially during the laborious desk-repairing and the tree planting, which also taught us the importance of nature in the Tanzanian community.Image

We were amazed at how resilient and happy the students were, even in a poverty-ridden country.

During our stay, we came to a realization that fixing one thing can make a big difference. Hammering an extra plank on a desk to stabilize it could affect how three kids learn. Also, because food and water are scarce, we learned the importance of being resourceful.

The people in this community practice resource management better than we could ever imagine. On the fifth day we visited local children  and got hands on experience with the local children. During the visit, we sang with the kids and exchanged songs.

This trip provided a much needed reality check that humbled and gave us a new perspective on our lives. It made us appreciate what we have.

Tanzania redefined poverty for me. However, the sense of community and sharing has shown the potential for kindness and compassion in humanity. With the term, pole Sana, we expressed our empathy for others. We loved Tanzania and enjoyed a truly life changing experience here.

Most importantly we CAN help by learning and taking the time to better understand.
