You‰’ve heard the saying about the glass right? You know, is it half full or half empty? Mine, for starters, is not a glass but a mug (containing coffee, obviously) and as for whether it‰’s half full or empty, well‰ my general outlook on life largely reflects the contents of my stomach, if I‰’m hungry the glass is definitely half empty! Caitlin, however, clearly has more important things to worry about and clearly has a lot on her plate other than food (pardon the pun). This is definitely a glass half full kind of girl and just goes to show that even if an event doesn‰’t make quite as money as you envisaged, this is no reason to give up! Combined with the fact she has created a successful logo t‰-shirt which no doubt meant sending a LOT of letters and dealing with a number of rejections, Caitlin‰’s positive attitude and determination is why she is this weeks fundraising Friday star! Go Caitlin!

Hi! I‰Ûªm Caitlin and I am fundraising for my £3710 trip to Cambodia next year!

When I heard about this trip I knew straight away I wanted to go as I have been involved in an interact group in my school since year 7 raising money for charities so actually being able to go out and help people-that‰’s just one better!

It was so hard for me to persuade my mum and dad to let me go as they were worried I would not have time to fundraise the money; I have my GCSEs this year, I am in an amateur pantomime group performing every year and I referee football almost every weekend.

So far I have done a sponsored T-shirt that raised me £600. I have also done bag packing, car boots and a skittles night so all of that together has raised me £1224.62.

On the bank holiday weekend there was a festival in my city where I managed to get a stall. For my stall I organised a ‰how many balloons in the car‰ competition. Cotswold Hereford gave me the loan of a car and the balloon shop gave me a discount off the balloons. I wrote to lots of company‰’s around Hereford to ask for a donation of prizes. The prize for the winner was bowling for 6 people, paintballing for 24 people, a meal for 2 at Nandos and £15 in the Entertainer. I was really hoping for this to be a big event and to raise quite a lot. Unfortunately it only raised £169 but anything is better than nothing! The festival people helped me out a lot by giving me a big discount on having the stall there.

I met a few people at the festival who have been to Cambodia, they were so kind and spoke so highly of it. They even tried to teach me some Cambodian it was hard but it has made me even more excited to get out there next year I really can‰’t wait!

So after this event my total raised is £1393.62. The total is getting closer but still a way to go! Also I have a Facebook page Caitlins Cambodia Expedition 2016 give it a like!

Given that a number of students show interest in the logo t‰-shirt idea and often enquire as to how to make it a success, here are some insider tips from Caitlin herself, take note guys!

  • Try companies you have family members working in as they seem more supporting!
  • If you get asked if you would like to go in and speak but there is no guarantee you will get sponsorship do it!!
  • Try to stay away from really big company’s that are everywhere chances are you will either not get a reply or it will be a no
  • Even if you keep getting no or no replies don’t let it put you down keep going there will be some yes sometime!

Awesome! As ever, PLEASE send us over your fundraising story, it makes us smile when we get to read your stories! What we look for when picking a Fundraising Friday Star is what you felt when you first heard about the expedition, a few paragraphs about what you have been up to so far for your fundraising, any future fundraising plans and some pictures of your fundraising! LOTS of pictures! (pleeeeeease) But the pictures do need to be of a high quality that can be uploaded online‰, no fuzzy mugshots! 😉

Please email all entries to fundraising@campsinternational.com, we can‰’t wait to hear from you all! 😀 Remember, every Fundraising Friday Star will win a FREE HEAD TORCH!

If you win, you will automatically be put into a draw to win an even bigger prize… every quarter we will choose one Fundraising Friday Star to win A FREE RUCKSACK, SLEEPING BAG LINER, TRAVEL TOWEL AND WATER BOTTLE!!! Which means less kit you’ll have to buy.

Until next Friday,

Lauren
