Hey guys! Amazing Friday is here! Finally! Woooooooo!!!!
A new voice for you this week ————-> Hazza!!! (that’s me!)
I’ve been working for Camps for about 3 years now, since my expedition to Borneo with my school back in 2011. Basically I have now joined the fundraising team to help our volunteers raise all their cash through fundraising alone – just as I did!!
I was unsure as to how to raise the money to begin with as were a lot of other students in my group. My parents paid the deposit and I had to start my fundraising ASAP to pay them back! Through doing gardening jobs, to working part time in a kitchen, walking up Mount Snowdon in Wales dressed as a monkey, writing to local businesses, doing car boot sales and receiving donations at Christmas and my birthday, I managed to raise the full amount for the expedition. By the time it got to May 2011, I was buzzing and set to go!!!
It’s been a long week here at Camps HQ but I have had the privilege this week to start helping lots of you guys gather fundraising ideas ready for the Summer ahead, to make sure your expedition is possible! After all, Summer is the most successful time to fundraise!
Our fundraising Friday star this week has done especially well so far!
So! Without further ado, we are proud to announce that this weeks’ winner iiiiiiiisssssss!. NAOMI HOOPER! CONGRATULATIONS!!!!!
Here are a few words from our star Naomi herself, telling us what she’s been up to!
At first, £4000 seemed an enormous amount and that I would never be able to raise it: we needed to raise on average £50 a week. But after 18 months I finally managed it.
I started by collecting things for car boot sales and eBay, which I continued to do throughout the time I was fundraising. I asked people if they had anything they wanted to get rid of, many neighbours and friends kindly donated. One of our best eBay sales was a signed Portsmouth football shirt that sold for £72, a friend who won it but had no interest in football gave it to us. We’ve done around 12 car boot sales in all weathers so are experts now; the most successful made £105.
Another way I raised money was by making chickens. With the help of my mum, I made Easter doorstops and paperweights shaped like chickens out of colourful material. I sold them at school, mostly to teachers, and made over £170. I did a similar thing with Christmas decorations: in 2013, making £35 and in 2014, making £68.
I also took part in sponsored events with my whole group. In February 2014, we took part in a swim and endured the freezing waters at Bigbury beach; and in July 2014, we did a 20 mile cycle ride around the local reservoir.
Throughout my time raising the money, I also had a weekly paper round which gave me £6.50 each week and then, at Christmas, extra tips.
Although at the beginning it seems too much money to raise, don’t be put off; with the help of friends and family and enough hard work, it is achievable.
Thank you so much Naomi and GREAT WORK!!!!! Your expedition is just around the corner so it’s time to get super excited! Your head torch will come in super handy whilst on expedition, trust us!
