Me again today – though credit must go to our Fundraising Guru Lauren for talking to Tara and getting this story….over to them!

At 5‰”2 tall (and a half, I hasten to add) I can safely say I do not belong on the cat walk. Not to mention the fact I would almost definitely fall over and that the last time I attempted to walk in heels I somehow managed to get my shoe wedged in a drain – don‰’t ask! Thankfully for Tara I was not there to lend a ‰helping‰ hand when she held her fashion show fundraiser which, I‰’m sure you will agree, was a complete success by the sounds of it! Getting the word out and selling tickets is half the battle and Tara clearly put in a lot of effort to make this happen. Ladies and gents, please read on to hear from the lady herself‰!

Hi my name is Tara and I first heard about Borneo through my school. At first I was reluctant to sign up as it was a big commitment and none of my close friends were going but eventually I decided to go for it because I felt like it was a once in a lifetime opportunity and I could make friends along the way.

I found out about the company that do these fundraising fashion shows through my mum going to one last winter, she recommended it to me and I decided to organise one to fundraise for Borneo since I hadn’t done any fundraising yet.

I would say the hardest part was selling the tickets since the show was for older ladies and I’m 15 but a lot of family friends were willing to help and bought tickets since my mum was in hospital over this period and was unable to help me. I charged £5 for each ticket and that got you free coffee and cake and we also did a raffle on the night. It was a big success, about 55 people came and we managed to raise £325 altogether and an extra £30 from selling leftover cake at school the next day! I would highly recommend the company ‘colours’ that did the actual fashion show to anyone looking to hold a fundraiser night, they were really helpful and said they would love to come back and do another in winter and hopefully I can make that one even better.

I’ve recently done a sponsored 3 hour fitness session and my school has organised a sponsored abseil in October which I’m looking forward to doing.
