Gap-year programmes are changing the way U.S. students and their families think about the path to a college education. In response to an increase in American students taking gap-years and recognition that such experiences have a positive impact on their achievement; a team of leading education and gap-year experts have joined together to support a trusted accreditation organisation, the American Gap Association (AGA).

The AGA, who are recognised by the US Department of Justice and the Federal Trade Commission, are dedicated to the ongoing growth of gap-years amongst young Americans. They work collaboratively with their members to research and promote the many benefits of gap-year travel, as well as serving as a valued information and advocacy hub for universities and educational counselors.

Social Enterprise and leaders in youth travel, Camps International, joined the AGA as an accredited member at the beginning of April. Their portfolio of ethical volunteer experiences throughout South America, Asia and East Africa have been vetted by the strictest gap-year standards; a rigorous process conducted by AGA staff and their board of industry advisors. The accreditation represents Camps International’s unwavering commitment to the highest standards in safety, quality, and integrity.

Whilst approving the latest addition to the AGA, Executive Director, Ethan Knight, said “We are very proud to welcome Camps International to the growing list of AGA Accredited Organisations. In particular, they have impressed me with their commitment to the local community, their risk management systems, and finally with their impressive emphasis on learning. I’d be happy to send anyone from my own family on a Camps International programme.”

Camps International’s Chief Operating Officer, Matt Lacey, commented “We are delighted to join the AGA at an exciting time for the American gap market. We understand the magnitude of the decision making process for students and parents who want to make the right choice for their gap year. We are extremely proud to be part of an association who share our passion for the personal development of students, and pride themselves on endorsing experiences of only the highest quality within the market place.”
