Wow- check out Euan! He has done so much, all in the space of six months! For those of you who may be slightly losing faith, feeling demotivated or just love reading these brilliant stories from fellow students…have a read through and be inspired!

When I first heard about the expedition to Ecuador, I felt extremely excited and really wanted to go! We went to the parents presentation at my school and my parents agreed that I should go.I spoke to some of my friends from our school’s previous expedition, “Team Pisang” about the Borneo 2015 expedition and they all encouraged me to go on this one as it is a great opportunity to experience the world, and that the expedition was amazing and one of the best things they had ever done! This is partly what fuelled my excitement for travelling to Ecuador. Also, I’ve never been to South America before so the expedition to Ecuador will be a great experience and something that I will remember for years to come.

To raise my first amount I did a cake sale the month after the presentation where myself and another volunteer raised £120 between us! I made over 100 fairy cakes with my mum as well as friends baking cookies, cupcakes and lemon cake to sell.

I then went on to hold another cake sale at my school where I sold fairy cakes, shortbread and lemon cake as well as chocolate cake, cookies and cake pops which were donated by friends and teachers at my school. Towards the end of lunch, there were loads of cakes left but fortunately 2 teachers bought enough cakes to give to their classes during the last lesson. I also charged them a delivery fee, so that they were delivered to their classroom during my free period. On top of this, I also sold cakes to teachers and other staff around school during my free periods! In total, I raised £130!

I have also held a coffee morning at my house in which we invited friends and family to my house from 10am for a cup of tea or coffee, a slice or cake and a good chat. We had so much cake, we only just fit all of it on our kitchen table! Visitors then donated money into a jar so that they could dig into our cakes and get a nice cup of tea!Alongside the cakes, we sold little gifts which included necklaces and jewelry, soap and other toiletries, books, candle holders and other little gift ideas. In total, I raised £400 from the coffee morning including donations from friends and family that couldn’t come. My dad took the left over cake to work the next day and cleared our stock!

Next I am planning to hold a quiz night at my school which will be offered to staff, students, friends and family. Lots of my friends and family have already told me that they are coming! My lead teacher has also got us in contact with our local Rotary Club and they have organised volunteering opportunities for the volunteers from my school to go and marshal or help serve food at their annual North Downs Walk, with some funding in return! My mum, her friend and my auntie are doing the walk too as 50% of your sponsorship money goes to a charity or cause of your choice, which in their case is me!

For birthdays and Christmas, I’ve decided that I’m going to ask for money or kit as presents so that I can either use the money to fill in any gaps before the payment deadlines or it saves me buying kit because it has already been given to me!
It is important to never give up and keep going no matter what!

Many Thanks,

Euan.
