Check out Michael! He is already waaaaay far ahead and doing a super fine job at fundraising! With a bit of encouragement and help from his parents plus sacrificing his christmas and birthday presents! Michael has raised over half of his total already and he doesn’t travel until 2017! Well done!

When I first heard about the expedition to Peru I thought I could do that and I really wanted to go I had only been abroad once. I knew it was a lot of money but I felt that I could do it. I came home and told mum and dad, mum wasn’t too happy about me being in another country for 4 weeks, but dad said go for it, it’ll be a fantastic experience but you’re going to have to make some sacrifices. I had saved some birthday money in my bank, which I said I’d use and ask for money instead of presents for Christmas. My dad saw that I was serious so said he would start my fundraising off by helping pay my deposit and first payment as a donation from his business in return I had to advertise his business on my camps t-shirt which I would wear at all of my fundraising events.

So with the help of my dad and some money I’d saved from my birthday, I paid my deposit and first month’s payment with money in the bank ready for the next month. I started painting canvases to sell at local fairs, I managed to get stall at our local church Christmas fair where I raised £100 selling canvases, scarves and I’d put together a guess the sweets game. It was a success I had an order for another canvas as well. I set up a get Michael to Peru Facebook, Twitter page and website, and did a name the teddy game for Valentine’s Day, which raise £40. I gathered lots of things to sell at car boot sales which we have been doing every Sunday and my grandparents donated £1000 as I’d been working so hard, my grandad thought it would be a life changing experience for me and an opportunity of a lifetime. I wrote letters to family, friends and local businesses asking for raffle prizes and donations.

As interest in what I was doing grew friends and family donated money and items to sell, and asked to buy my paintings. At Easter I did a couple chocolate basket games through my Facebook page and my grandma took one to the nursery she works at, which raised in total £100. Raffle prizes were being donated from local businesses for my barn dance I was hosting, the support I’ve received has been and continues to be amazing. In May we held the barn dance which was at our local church hall hired for free, I ordered pasties, made refreshments and sweet cones and hired a dance caller who was brilliant. We charged £5 for adults and £2.50 for children asking for a small donation for teas and coffees. I did a guess the sweets game, a raffle, a guess the name of the dog game and another game my dad made up to guess the distance between the camps that I will be going to in Peru which got everybody guessing. Everybody really enjoyed it and asked when we were doing the next one. We raised £508.15 after everything was paid for. In just under 6 months I have raised £2,793.04! My next event I’m organizing is a car treasure hunt, £2 per person with prizes for 1st, 2nd,3rd and bbq at the finish. I’m also going to do a summer fun basket for people to win which will contain everything a kid could need on a day at the beach!

I’m planning on having another barn dance at the end of the summer. I am really enjoying hosting all of my fundraising events because I’m gaining confidence and making people happy.
