Oh my goodness! Check out Olly! He knows how useful it is to have a regular fundraising event and bring a steady flow of money in…He’s climbing a mountain! How awesome?! A sponsored event is ALWAYS a winner! That reminds me, check out our Facebook page, I have a sponsored event planned for next week myself!! Anyway, back to Olly, he is super organised and has figured out his way of attacking his fundraising targets and making it fit in with his everyday life too. Have a read folks….
I felt really excited when I first heard about Camp Ecuador. I have wanted to visit the Galapagos islands since watching a David Attenborough documentary about it when I was about six years old! My parents have both travelled and I would like to have some amazing adventures too. I also like the idea that I will be helping others at the same time. I am really pleased that I also have several of my friends coming with me to share these experiences.
For my first fund raising event, I made cakes for my Mum’s art classes. I started making cakes for D of E, so now I’m able to use this skill! I enjoy making them so it’s not a chore! I was amazed at how generous people can be and at the compliments I received. I now do this once a month , although I had time out during GCSEs. It is useful to have a regular fundraising event.
Most recently, I have also been training for my sponsored event. I have been out running and walking with a heavy pack. I am climbing Mont Blanc, with my Dad, who is a climber, next week. Mont Banc, which is in the Alps, is the highest mountain in Europe at 4,180 metres. We will be climbing other peaks first in order to acclimatise, so we will be out there for a couple of weeks.I have set up a “Go fund me” page and also physically gone round with a sponsor form. I have put it on face book and emailed people. I have already raised £500, but hoping to increase this after the event. I am feeling a bit nervous about this as it is a big challenge. Another idea is to organise a slide show, together with my Dad, later in the year…where we will share our experiences. I see this as another fundraiser idea. I have taken part in several fundraising activities with my friends including quite a few bag packs, Round table Santa’s sleigh, and making chocolate goodies for a market stall at Easter.
Next, I am planning to organise an “Artextravaganza day” in September, with my Mum, who is an artist. I have sent off for lots of art prizes for an art competition, as part of that event, and I have asked the Art teachers at my school to be the judges. My mum will be doing an art demonstration and I will be setting everything up, selling second hand art materials and organising a raffle. I am also hoping to organise a Ceilidh before Christmas for families.
I am really looking forward to the Camp Ecuador expedition..it’s a trip of a life time. I think I’m doing quite well with my fundraising so far. I am aiming to raise the full amount of £5,000. I have managed to raise over £2,500 so far and I have another 10 months to raise the other half. I think it’s good to try to do things that are a bit different as it catches the attention of people. Also I think it’s important to organise things where people get something for their money. That way everyone is happy!
I hope you like my piece!
