Wow! Millie is super excited about her trip to Borneo in 2017! Here is what she has been up to, check it out! Full of fun including cakes, babysitting and feeding cats! (what a great combo by the way) A nice mixture of little events and a big event thrown in for good measure is always a winner, Millie proved it! Be inspired folks….

I first heard about the amazing trip to Borneo in June last year and immediately wanted to go! Although the trip was quite expensive so fundraising that amount of money seemed very daunting. However after a couple of meetings and hearing other people’s stories I realised that with a lot of hard work and effort, it could be achieved. So after persuading my parents, we signed a form and payed the first deposit. This was £417 which I made a goal for myself to raise y the end of the summer holidays.

The first thing that I thought of was to get a part time job, however as I was 14 the only places I could really apply for was hairdressers. I ended up applying to around 10 hairdressers in my area! Some said that I was too young and others didn’t have any available jobs, however a training salon said they had a Saturday job which they offered me. This brought in around £25 a week, which I added onto babysitting that I was doing to get very close to the deposit. As it was the summer I knew people would be going away and so I also told neighbours that I would be more than happy to feed their cats whilst they were away. This was a great success as I did it for 2 weeks and got around £70! And by the end of August I had raised my deposit which I was so proud of.

When school started again my friends and I decided to do a cake sale at lunch and break. Some of our other friends that weren’t going to Borneo baked cakes and cookies for us to sell which we were very grateful for and we also bought coca cola in bulk to also sell. This was a real success and altogether we made just over £100.Picture1

We did a couple more cake sales and with my part time job and babysitting this brought my total to just over £1000!

Around October time my friends and I decided to run a year 7 disco, this took a lot of planning and time. Firstly we contacted our friend’s dad who owns a Super Booth company and asked if we could have a booth at the disco. Not only did he lend us the super booth but dance revolution, two arcade games, UV lights and helped run and set everything up. Then we bought lots of food and drinks, our friends also made some amazing brownies and cakes! We sold tickets in
advance for £2.50 and on the night for £3. The disco was a huge success and we raised just under £900!!

After the disco my friends and I decided to email companies for sponsorship. We emailed so many companies and did not have many successes however one company said they would love to have a meeting with us to discuss it. This really excited all of us, the people were really lovely at lock and leave and decided to sponsor us £60 each for their logo on our t-shirts which we were so happy with! We were very lucky as we managed to get the t-shirts printed for free which meant we could each have £60 towards our trip

I have also got an easy fundraising account which I have shared with lots of family and friends to use when shopping which should hopefully help. My friends and I are going to do many more cake sales and hopefully another disco. We are also thinking of doing bag packing and car boot sales. I still have another year until I go to Borneo and have raised just over half of the amount and can’t wait to raise even more as it had been so much fun so far!
