Team Turpial spent an amazing summer in Ecuador, undertaking community projects and visiting the Galapagos Islands.

In the Galapagos we were introduced to our extremely knowledgeable and hilarious tour guides Ernesto and Raúl. They informed us about the delicate balance between humans and the wildlife and gave us a tour of the interpretation centre. We enjoyed a visit Tortuga Bay and got extremely up close and personal with Marne iguanas and friendly sea lions.

We went snorkelling several times around Kicker Rock and saw many fish, sea lions, Galapagos sharks and a turtle! Many of the group overcame their fears of open water and smashed out out of our comfort zones. For lunch we spent an afternoon in paradise on our own private beach surrounded by all the wildlife.

At camp Esmeraldas where we were welcomed with open arms into the local community, it was here that we realised how much our hard work and effort on project work had an impact on the local community and its people. We far exceeded our own expectations and that of the project staff. This inspired us to want to continue to push our boundaries during our next projects later in the trip. We have met some amazing people that we will remember for the rest of our lives and feel we have left a little of hearts behind with the people of Esmeraldas.
