At Camps International we are very excited to go into our 15th birthday year in Kenya with record numbers of students joining our Sports Development Programme departing in August 2017.
If you are currently studying sports development or coaching, considering going in to this area for a future career or just simply love sport and want to help share your interest – this is the ultimate trip with impact for you.
This inspiring sports development programme, created in partnership with Bournemouth University, has been running now for 7 years, and within only a couple of weeks of announcing the latest date, we already have record numbers signing up for this truly amazing programme.
What’s included in the trip?
You’ll travel to Kenya for 4 weeks, along with a group of fellow students and be involved in every aspect of sports development for 720 children at the Sasenyi Primary and Secondary Schools. Sports education in Kenya is virtually non-existent due to a lack of resources and time, so this programme has been implemented to help inspire and educate the children to the possibilities, benefits and enjoyment that sport can bring to their lives.
You’ll be involved in every aspect of sports development, from establishing football, netball and volleyball pitches to delivering classroom theory sessions and practical sports coaching with children aged from 5-18 years old.
The time you invest, inspiring, engaging and teaching these children will lead up to 2 amazing sporting events. The first is a community fun run for the children to take part in and the second is an inter-school football tournament.
A real and authentic experience
During your time in Kenya you’ll be living alongside the local community, so you’ll also get a real and authentic experience, understand more about the challenges these rural communities face, whilst helping to change their lives for the better, forever.
You’ll be able to spend some time with the truly inspirational Mama Mercy and her women’s group, learning about how they have set up and run a number of profitable micro-finance initiatives to help support their families. You’ll even have the chance to learn some new skills, taught by these fantastic women.
No trip to Kenya would be complete without getting the chance to glimpse at the ‘Big 5’. You’ll go on safari through the Tsavo National Park, home to over 50 species of mammal and 300 species of birds.
Living within the park are elephants, zebras, cheetahs and African hunting dogs to name just a few.
You can join the trip on your own, with a group of friends or perhaps grab some people on your course at uni and add to your degree with a life-changing practical volunteering trip.
