Since 2011 we have been working on supporting rural communities within Ecuador. Looking to help people within these communities implement real solutions to the challenges they are facing.
With the help of our amazing volunteers from schools, universities and independent travellers, we have already made significant developments to help thousands of people.
To do more, we need more volunteers who are looking for an opportunity to not only visit this exciting and biodiverse landscape but to help change lives through undertaking vital project work.
Ecuador is one of the most biodiverse countries in the world.
Within a day’s drive of the capital, Quito, you can experience the wonders of the Amazon rainforest, snow-capped mountains and palm fringed beaches. Our trips with impact enable you to explore and support one or more of these fantastic landscapes and gain a real and authentic experience supporting their local communities.
In 2016 we have launched two improvement projects with schools in the Esmeraldas province. These local schools are essential as the cost to send their children to schools outside the province are too great for the families to afford. So whilst discussing with the community where they would like our support, improving the facilities at the schools was very high on their list.
26 de Septiembre School
The 26 de Septiembre School is a primary school, with children from Years 1 to 7. We started working with the school in the summer of 2016 and have already undertaken projects to improve the dining room for the children, plastered the kitchen walls, fixed and improved some of the toilets, sanded and painted desks for the children to sit on and fixed the roof over one classroom.
This is just scratching the surface of the additional support this school needs. Future projects at the school include securing the windows and doors of the dining room, making furniture for the kitchen to enable better preparation and storage, repairing and in some places replacing the roof of the rest of the school buildings, improving the remaining toilets, building a brand new classroom and a bedroom with bathroom for a teacher.
Giving these children the best possible start in their education can help to transform their futures.
Angelo Patry School
The Angelo Party School is a primary and secondary school educating children from Years 1 to 10 in the Chura Parish. The project with this school again launched in the summer of 2016 with the initial focus of providing an enclosure around the school. This enclosure is well underway with huge thanks to the help received from volunteers in the summer.
Future projects at the school include building 6 new toilets, a new classroom, improving the social areas of the school to enable the children to play safely, building a new playground and creating a new dorm for a teacher to stay on the grounds.
