Happy Friday folks, this weeks Fundraising Friday Star is Daniel! Have a read through his inspiring journey so far, its perfect for that extra little nudge you might need. Well done Daniel, you rock! Keep up the good work.

My name is Daniel and I am 16 years old…

I attend school in Sheffield and when I first heard that our school was taking part in this once in a life time opportunity I was absolutely amazed they chose me. I wanted to go to Costa Rica and Nicaragua with school but the fundraising created great nervousness when I knew I had to raise over £4000. I thought that I could achieve it with great determination but then sad news arrived. Our school backed out of the trip due to many reasons leaving me indecisive of whether to do it by myself or not. I finally realised it would be worth every bit of time and effort and I would get lots of life skills from this experience.

To raise my deposit amount, I set up an easyfundraising page (which currently has got £75 in a few months). In the first month I managed to get £30 from this towards my project.  I promoted a few months before Christmas so many people bought their Christmas presents online through me and then in the New Year their bills and licenses as well.

Also I had many family members and friends who donated some money to me through my crowd funding page. Combined with one company donation, I had managed to raise about £500 in one month. This was a real boost to my ideas making and got me off the start ground.

Secondly, I created a “Street life” and “Next door” account where I then asked people for donations which I could sell at car boot sales. This lead to over 20 people donating boxes of items to sell and I ended up having enough stuff for over 5 car boot sales. I did my first car boot in the end of November and I got over £100 just for a few hours selling other peoples unwanted items. I am planning to do more of these in the spring time once the weather improves and more people come out to buy stuff.daniel

I have had a massive help from a local lady who is an immense event organiser. I contacted her for help and she managed to get in contact with a local pub who were happy to put on an event at a weekend. I had a band (Son Para Todos), stalls, raffle, silent auction and a coffee morning. I even got Miss Hope Valley 2017 (Miss South Yorkshire 2015 to do singing and advertising to attract more people and I thank her for her help). Lastly, this was boosted by local businesses donating items for us to sell or enter into the raffle. I had lots of fudge and sold them in bags of 100g and made a massive profit. I made over £1500 from this one event.daniel2

I also had a few items donated which I thought were very valuable so I took them to my nearest auction house for a valuation and entered them into an auction. I had a Football T-Shirt from the Crazy Gang and Tottenham Hotspurs (which the original player had worn). They got £200 and £130 each. Finally I had a silver goblet which got £150. This was a massive help to my fundraising as I now had nearly £3000.

I am doing another event at my local pub in Sheffield where there is going to be a bouncy castle, a car boot for 20 people, 10/15 stalls from local businesses and a bbq with a lemonade stand. This will then be helped by a tombola and another raffle. I hope to raise £1000 by this so I raise my total amount. This leaves any excess money going towards my kit and vaccinations.

Thanks Daniel!
