Well done to Matt who has achieved his fundraising goal ready for his expedition next summer – some hard work and commitment and he has made it!

When I first heard about the expedition I thought that it was going to be really hard to raise all the money that I would need to go on the trip in just 18 months. However it is such a great opportunity to travel to South America to visit different cultures and help make a difference to other people. The bonus is the trek to Machu Picchu which was a big attraction for me.

To raise my first amount I looked through the ideas provided by Camps International and made a list of all of the ones that I thought I could do. I started by writing to businesses for sponsorship for a T-shirt and secured £500 fairly quickly.    At the same time I was organising a sponsored head shave on my Birthday in December and got the local papers to print an article (which gave my sponsors their first bit of advertising!) – my head shave raised a further £600! I also managed to raise quite a bit of money on the lead up to Christmas by setting up an Easyfundraising account and getting everyone to raise donations while Xmas shopping as well as clearing out all of my old stuff (and getting family to give me their unwanted stuff) and selling it on eBay so I got off to a really good start.img_1690

In the New Year I asked my school if I could sell drinks & snacks at all the parent evenings which raised an average £75 each time. At Easter me and friend from school organised a Disco for our year group – this was quite hard work and took a bit of planning and organising but we raised over £1,000 from tickets and refreshments – school allowed us to sell the leftover drinks and sweets in school for a few weeks afterwards. img_1660I did a stall at the summer school fete and then my last big event was a sponsored 20 mile Coastal Walk (on one of the hottest Saturdays in July).

I have now raised the whole amount for my trip (which I can’t quite believe). It has been hard work in a relatively short space of time, but it is good to know that I have done it with plenty of time to spare and that so many people have been happy to support me.img_0740

I am still getting some donations in from my Easyfundraising page so I am going to put this towards my kit and vaccinations. I am really grateful for the support of everyone – our school has been good at allowing us to sell at school and also to arrange events – the key to getting my money together so quickly has been by doing a variety of different fundraisers that gets lots of different people donating.
