Our new programme is aimed at providing much needed support to Msambweni Hospital in Kwale County, Kenya. The hospital is situated in an area experiencing high levels of poverty, they are under staffed and lack the necessary resources to reduce high mortality rates. This is a demanding programme that will see you spending your two weeks working closely with the staff at Msambweni, offering expertise, support and advice. The Hospital offers a challenging environment, but you really will gain a huge amount from your time here, just be prepared to get stuck in and make a difference. You’ll be staying at Camp Muhaka, located in the foothills of the Shimba Hills National Reserve, there’s mango and coconut trees a plenty in this lush green oasis.
We have of course factored in some much needed down time. Spend a day relaxing on beautiful Diani Beach on the Indian Ocean and of course no trip to Africa would be complete without a safari. We’ll take you out into one of the country’s premier National Parks for an unforgettable wildlife experience. Be a part of the solution, share your knowledge and expertise with the local staff at Msambweni Hospital. In return gain an insight into hospital life in rural Kenya, taking home with you new ways of thinking and strategies for dealing with a challenging work environment.

Camp Muhaka will quickly become your home away from home. With stylish traditional buildings and a great social scene, there’s plenty to keep you busy. Being in the heart of the village also has its perks; all your project sites are only a short walk away and you can walk with the children to and from school so you’ll be a local in no time!
Location: 1.5-2 hours drive from Mombasa Airport
Accommodation style: Traditional bandas and tents with comfy mattresses and bedding. Modern toilets, showers and sinks

Arrive at Mombasa Airport, where a member of our Camp Kenya team will great you and take you to your accommodation at the beautiful Camp Muhaka. Settle in, meet the Camps staff and get to know your fellow medical volunteers as you establish your personal goals and objectives for the next 14 days.
Today we head to Msambweni Hospital. Dr Stan and other staff members deliver a briefing and orientation and you’ll be introduced to the medical staff of your respective fields who you will be supporting over the next couple of weeks.
Get stuck in to busy hospital life over the next few days, supporting patient care and sharing your knowledge and expertise.
An early breakfast followed by a full morning of Safari in the stunning Shimba Hills National Reserve, home to the highest density of African elephant in Kenya. The afternoon will be spent relaxing in Diani and making the most of its amazing tropical beaches.
Relax on the stunning white sand beach and check out the restaurants and shops that Diani Beach offers.
Back to Msambweni Hospital to pick up with your Kenyan colleagues and continue your support.
Your final day at the Hospital. A great opportunity to offer your feedback and present ideas for future care and treatment.
Spending time with the Muhaka community, you will learn more about the local culture. You’ll cook traditional food and have the chance to buy some souvenirs from the local community. A BBQ in the evening with your colleagues from Msambweni Hospital is a great way to round off your time in Kenya.
We say our final goodbyes before transferring you back to Mombasa Airport.
