Talk about initiative this week!  One of our students has managed to get her fundraising of to a cracking start – raising £100 in her first week!! This story was sent to me by our staff member in Ireland who was so impressed he wanted her featured immediately…we then managed to get the story from the student directly – check it out!

My name is Alix, and I am a 16 year old student at School in Northern Ireland. In November we had a meeting in school with Tommy, a Camps International representative, who showed us a presentation about the Borneo Trek expedition that we were being offered.

I knew instantly that I wanted to go on this trip and when I got home I checked out the website and Facebook pages – watched ALL the videos, read all the blogs – I was hooked.

When I heard how much my expedition was going to cost I knew I would have to raise most of the money myself. My mum makes fused glass and I decided that I should try to make something that would use up some of her scrap glass and that people would buy. Following a bit of trial and error the key rings and bag charms that I came up with were perfected.

Each item comes with a message from me and so far I have sold around 80 key rings at £4 each making a total of around £320 towards my fundraising.

I will continue to make my key rings and will sell them at craft fairs but for my next project I am going to speak to local businesses for sponsorship to advertise on my t-shirt. I am also a keen singer and over the coming months before my expedition I plan to hold a fundraising concert along with friends who share a common interest in music. I can’t wait for the summer of 2017 and the opportunities I will get in Borneo.

Keep Fundraising Everyone!!
