Mmmmmmm everyone loves waffles right?! This weeks fundraising Friday star is the wonderful Ollie! He is just about to embark on his expedition and has worked so hard! Ollie found something simple and turned it into a huge fundraising success. Congratulations! Ollie leaves for Peru today, have a fantastic time! All that hard work has really paid off…. Have a read folks!

When Camps International came into our school and introduced us to the idea of going to Peru I just thought Wow, what an experience! Could I really afford to go? I knew I really really wanted to. My parents said they would support me with the deposit and we came up with lots of ideas of how I could raise the money.

My best advice to anyone is have smaller targets. I set myself a goal to raise & a goal to earn. I was only 14 when I began my fundraising so jobs were going to be limited, but my paperound & being a helper in swimming lessons have raised £1,000 in just over a year.

My lightbulb moment came with my love of waffles. We already had the waffle iron. I persuaded my parents that we could use our large kitchen and ask all our friends to my Pop Up Waffle cafe.

Facebook has been a brilliant help in organising 3 of these in my kitchen, with over 100 people attending overall. I’ve also been invited into 2 offices to make the staff waffles for donations. So far flour, water, a few toppings & other ingredients have made me in excess of £1,300.

On the back of this success, we’ve also had two evening events. My dad made cocktails & I made mocktails. We charged £10 a head and had so many compliments that if I’d had time I’d have done another one. Keeping track of my fundraising has given me essential experience. I’ve also bag wrapped, car booted and recycled building materials among many others things.image3

I met my total with 2 weeks to spare. I’m just getting my last bits of kit together now and have got 10 days after my exams finish to do promised jobs to earn my spending money.

Can’t wait for my trip –  Peru 2016
